Photo Printer Review and Digital Camera Review Welcomes you.

Review Photo Printer.

CANON imagePROGRAF iPF5000. Price Gouging at its Best!

While trying to find info on this new printer. I checked the Canon site again and there it was. http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsAct&fcategoryid=170&modelid=13098 . Was I ever surprised! Now I have always known Canon has high pricing structure(I go way back with them 'copiers') But they do produce good products.

Now the basic problems with this new printer

  • The Epson 4800 pro is the current industry standard at $1895.00 (for this size)
  • The Epson comes with a full set of inks(110ml each) The Canon does not.
  • The Epson comes with a roll feeder. The Canon does not.
  • The HP130 is also in this group and is less expensive(better prints than the Epson for certain kinds of prints)
  • Canon PROGRAF iPF5000 is stated as having a msrp of around $1995.00. *Add in the cost of a full set of Canon ink carts(12) and you are above $3200.00. Add in the roll feeder(best guess) and you are over $3400.00.

*Quote from Canon Specs: '2The starter ink tanks that initially packaged with the printer have enough ink to fill the ink system, and are not the same capacity as the replacement ink tanks specified here.'
Optional Accessories:

Auto Roll Feed Unit (RU-01).
This printer will also probably use more ink than the Epson(IMHO) based on what little info I can find.

So my question is. Why would anybody even look at this printer? Some people who are perfectionist about their prints. Well we do not even know how good this printer is. I do know that Epson will have a rebate sometime soon. And that will equate to being able to buy 2 Epson 4800 printers or An HP130 and A Epson 4800 for about the same amount as the Canon will cost for the initial Comparable setup.

I would not buy one at the current pricing.

While we are doing our own Photo Printer reviews. Please try these fine sites.
